My name is Karen Garcia and I was born and raised in beautiful Hawaii. I am a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa (Go Bows!) and have been married to Nestor Garcia for over 30 years. We have two daughters and live on the Leeward side of the island of Oahu where we both grew up.

I worked at several different companies over the course of my career and have made many friends in the process. I like to say that it’s about the journey, not the destination. After spending a good chunk of my life working as an executive assistant, I finally decided to utilize my writing skills for my own pleasure. As a result, I started this blog to highlight my writing projects.

In addition to posting recipes and restaurant reviews on www.diningaccordingtokaren.blogspot.com, I  published my first book in 2013. “If I Fall Apart” is about my experience as a cancer survivor. I wrote the book with the hope that it may help others undergoing their own journey with cancer.

My second book, “Wild Chicken Surprise,” was published in late-2014. I wrote it to document family recipes for my two daughters so they can prepare the dishes they grew up with for their own families. As the book evolved, I also added a section with tips for new cooks.

I hope you’ll check out both my food blog and my books. Also, here is a link to my Author’s Page on Amazon.

Thank you for visiting my blog!

  1. Aloha, Karen! You are most inspirational, for anyone dealing with life challenges. I am responding especially because you look so much like a precious student named Karen that I had a Pearl City High. Your smile is exactly as hers. If not, you have a twin soul sister. I have been teaching 40+ years in physical education and beautiful people as you, Karen, makes teaching most rewarding. Your upbringing and support system are doing an awesome job as you continue to make a difference for yourself, your family and your community. Mahalo Ke Akua and God Bless you always.

    • Aloha Ms. (Hirata) Bicoy!

Yes, I am your former student from PCHS. I enjoyed your PE classes, especially when we got to dance since I’m poor in athletics. Thanks for your kind words and for visiting my blog. I hope all is well!

      Take care!
      Karen Mun Garcia
